Interest Groups (IGs)
IGs run on a "groupware" platform called CIRCA (CIRCA documentation ). Administration rights to IGs are granted to group leaders upon submission and approval of a proposal. Leaders must agree to the terms and conditions set out in the Terms of Service for Leaders.
IGs provide an extranet environment to communicate and manage documents more efficiently. IGs offer a range of valuable services - with privileged password access to members. Once an IG leader is assigned by the EEA, the leader builds the IG in terms of membership and access privileges of the various members. Members can then rely on the leader and on the Help Desk for answers and support throughout the entire process of communicating and establishing a common pool of documents. Members can receive notification about new documents, decide which documents to make publicly available, upload HTML files with external links, organise meetings, and create newsgroups and contact lists.
Environmental professionals in Europe have a growing need to establish collaborative workflow amongst themselves and key institutions working on a variety of issues in different locations. Sometimes, they also need to retrieve documents and information securely, regardless of the geographical location of persons or offices. CIRCA allows this and more.
